GUIDED PONY TREKKING
Pony Trekking the Hills of Napier
Imagine rediscovering Napier and its peaceful, undulating surrounds, with only the sounds of the birds and the wind and the gentle clip-clop of hooves. Imagine the delight of spotting tortoises, small buck and wild hares, and the kites, cranes and occasional Jackal Buzzard that dip and whirl above you.
All this is available in Napier for you, your family or your guests. And if the thought of spending a couple of hours on horseback is a little nerve-wracking, your personal guide Vicky Butler will assure you that Nemo and Viper are two of the most well-mannered and gentle ponies you could ever wish to meet.

MOUNTAIN BIKING & GRAVEL CYCLING
Cycling in the Overberg
The Heuningberg Mountain range and the surrounding Ruens rolling farmlands of the southern Overberg, offers fantastic mountain biking and gravel cycling opportunities. Endless well maintained farm roads and incredibly scenic countryside, particularly from July to September with the canola in full bloom and the wheat and barley is at it’s peak, are waiting for you on your bicycle.
Along the routes you will also see a variety of birds and animals such as the our national bird, the Blue Crane, Secretary bird, Denham Bustard and various raptors are commonly seen, whilst the fields are also home to a variety of bokkies, such as Springbok, Steenbok, and Grey Rhebok. Both the Cape and the Bat-eared Fox call this region home, as do the Cape and the Yellow Mongoose.
Choose your distance. Contact Jonno at The Restio Country Guesthouse for information on both mountain biking and gravel cycling for routes and ideas as well as organised rides tailored for you.

COUNTRY WALKS & GUIDED HIKES
Country Walks
If you fancy spotting jackals, raptors, eagle owls, barn owls, fish eagles, blue crane, gymnogenes, wild geese, the occasional baboon, a mongoose or two, and the odd local, it’s time for a walk.
A popular circular meander runs from Plein St, past the cemetery, around the field, and back via Reservoir Road. Or keep on up the hill with the ‘Pony Club’ to your right and head into the Renosterveld. On the other side of Sarel Cilliers St is the Tamatiekraal route, via either Van Der Byl or Trade streets, intersecting Monsanto Rd and up through the Sensako fields. (Note: a closed gate means ‘no entry’.) And don’t forget to take in the distant Riviersonderend mountains and endless skies!
For guided walks or group hikes off the beaten track, contact Annelia on 082 821 2474.
